The pre-study is an important step in order to establish the feasibility of the project. It may either describe the business problem on a strategic level or focus on the technical potential of the IT-environment. It highlights risks and possible gains.
Depending on the size, the pre-study may contain information such as:
- Project outline
Purpose, background, scope and goals/targets of the integration project.
- Business process
A definition of current business processes and how they are conducted. It may also suggest how business processes can be automated and simplified.
- System overview
A description of the IT-infrastructure - before and after integration.
- EAI strategy
A comprehensive description of the overall integration strategy - in the company or as a part of a corporate group. This part may outline future scenarios.
- ROI/TCO
An estimate of the return on investments and total cost of ownership of the integration project - or of a wider integration strategy as a whole.
